Conflict Management, Emotional Intelligence and Bullying Prevention

I’m a class teacher at the English School.  In July 2019  I  attended Conflict Management, Emotional Intelligence and Bullying Prevention – one week course in Barcelona. The course was organized by EuroPass. It was a teacher training seminar within the framework of the ERASMUS+ Program.

The course caught my interest since well-being of the students has been a leading thought throughout my 4 year career as a class teacher. Although I have studied about group dynamics and conflict resolution, I wanted to refresh my memory and learn some new tools to be used in my work.

During the week we learned about conflict management, emotional intelligence as a school subject, enhancing emotional self-regulation and how emotions affect learning. We also learned practical and experimental activities in good communication and active listening, integrating SEL (Social Emotional Learning) in the curricula, causes of bullying and the new forms of cyberbullying. New pedagogies against bullying were also introduced.

We had a good group of colleagues around Europe and the best part of the course was sharing our experiences on the topic with them and learning from them. I was happy to discover that the Finnish KiVa-program that we use in our school as well was taken with such a great interest. I also learned to respect and appreciate more the ongoing system preventing bullying at our school.
